Huge accelerations in atmosphere imply drag forces do not apply to this technology. In open space even less issues. Maintaining such accelerations over not so long a time could get to relativistic speeds where time dilation applies, implying much reduced travel times between stellar systems.
For instance, one could travel to the nearest star, 4 light years away, in weeks, ship "proper time". However there is an ambiguity here as to what these objects are and strictly whether mass/energy in the relativistic sense applies But...it is very clear they do have tremendous accelerations and velocities.
